Shouldn't that be an 'Attention Nymph'?

Why doesn't 'Attention Whore' mean someone who's paid to pay attention, like a psychologist?

Pebbles - Thank you.
JD - Lighten up. It's tounge in cheek.
Goddess - Jeez. Attention Nympho. OK

Dictionary.com describes nymph as follows:
1. one of a numerous class of lesser deities of mythology, conceived of as beautiful maidens inhabiting the sea, rivers, woods, trees, mountains, meadows, etc., and frequently mentioned as attending a superior deity.
2. a beautiful or graceful young woman.
3. a maiden.
4. the young of an insect that undergoes incomplete metamorphosis.

I found this definition of whore:
A prostitute.
A person considered sexually promiscuous.
A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.

Keeping this in mind, an attention whore may be someone who has compromised his/her principles for attention. Therefore, a psychologist/psychiatrist who pays attention for a living does not fit the definition. Nor is attention nymph accurate, as an attention whore is not necessarily beautiful, female or undergoing metamorphosis.

This One is Mine, Stand Back: You are correct. I think of myself rather as an Attentionaholic, Attention Addict or Attentionomanic. Do not judge us all by the meanderings of one. We are each unique is our individual narcissism. And thank you for calling "attention" to our plight.

Someone who has the NEED for attention, perhaps someone like you, and who will do just about anything for it might have narcissism. This is a diagnosable disorder and very tough to treat.
People who have a need to denegrate others, especially those who hold the USA's highest awarded academic degree, might have other issues of personality.
