Schools are getting more restrictive with many things. I thought schools were supposed to act on the best interest of the students. How can people teach children and teens to be emotionally capable human beings when we can't even hug?
The girl who got in trouble because of hugging for the death of a parent...That is so bad it is beyond words. What are her friends supposed to do? Just stand there and watch her weep?
If I went to that school, I would get everyone to hug each other in front of the school office. Hugs were created for a reason. It is to comfort us and shouldn't be excluded from a sometimes stressful place.

^ I heard some schools did 'ban' talking. I heard of one school that banned kids from talking at lunch because "they might not hear a student choking" and elementary school kids banned from talking at lunch.
Well, the girl's mother thought it be hilarious her daughter got detention for hugging. It's not a laughing matter, it's asininely ridiculous. I think the point's already made thorough by the above posters that the educational system is in shambles (in more ways than one)being run by the clowns we call "educators" that they can't seem to distinguish between simple displays of affection which is universally embraced and innate within human nature and inappropriate sexual activity.
In the words of my generation, they can go to hell. For their fascist totalitarian ideology of repressiveness. But before that, hug and kiss anyway in front of them... They're a disgrace to this country everything this country stands for.
They've gone way too far with their "school policy" and it violates some of the basic rights as human beings in treating kids like mindless drones. And you could probably argue it infringes on the right to pursue happiness by the Constitution. The principles of which this country was founded to give rights and freedoms to all citizens did NOT set a age requirement or discriminates against any group. If adults were outlawed from hugging and kissing, there would be hell to pay...
As someone said earlier, it might've been that one person who freaked out that ruined it for everyone. You can't make everyone happy, but why should the majority suffer for the few? It has always been majority wins.
And they would complain about apathetic kids nowdays... Things like these is why we have a moral breakdown in society today.

This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard,
There was a similar problem here in the UK where certain schools wouldn't let pupils hug make any physical contact, which is so lame. Who gave them the right to stop people from hugging; hugging is a form of greeting and it’s a way of comforting your friends, they might as well ban shaking hands.
This is basically tries to show kids that physical contact it “BAD” and punishable, and what kind of life would that be.
AAARRGGHH!!! I’m sorry but your question has put on a rant, I’m usually a peaceful guy but someone needs to shoot whoever implemented those rules.
P.S You should ignore “caniaskufavor" he clearly is a homophobe and is talking absolute crap, just because a girl hugs a girl doesn’t make her a lesbian you Git "caniaskufavor"

GEE What will it be next no talking to each other that wasn't even a hug. what is this world coming to when kids will not be able to talk to one another. Man they are taking away everything from kids. A hug is nothing in school Gee kids are going to do what they feel like doing if not in school. They hand out birth control pills and condoms that is worse than hugging . This is wrong and someone should change that rule on the school

PDA in Middle Schools should be more for kids who are just starting to flirt/date. No holding hands, no kissing, no full body ( you know what I mean) extended "hugging" well I have no problem with that.
But to tell you that you cant give another person a hug...wow, that's just wrong. I know that in some schools teaches are not allowed to hug a student, because the school doesn't want any one getting accused of inappropriate behavior.

Yes I think that wrong and stupid. My school doesn't have any problems when some hugs or anything. But if it was in school building or during the school hours that might be something. BUt school was over and on the sidewalk that they shouldn't do anything about it. I would suit the scool for something that. I don't know want their problems are. Hugging someone is not hurting that person feelings or anything or hurting at all.

Join the PTA and participate in meetings.
Speak at School Board meetings.
Voice your opinion and organize other parents.
Some "educators" think they are doing what is best, but we parents have to make sure they know how we want them to their job.
Public schools work for us, but only if we're involved! If you don't speak out, School Boards, Principals, teachers and even lawmakers will continue to come out with these insane rules for our kids to follow!
They are OUR kids and WE have to tell the schools that "IN LOCO PARENTIS" does not give them the right to carry-out their juvenile Crazy-making ideas.

Is this the same school that's passing out birth control? If not then you can't compare the situtations. And I agree it's wrong I remember a couple of years ago there was a couple here that was suspended for holding hands in the hall. They are so stupid with the rules!

We have the same rule at my school- no hugging, kissing, holding hands, fornicating, etc etc. we all laugh and move on. many many ppl are in detention for it, and i agree it is a dumb rule. Me & my friends, both male and female, hug all the time, and we have gotten in trouble before.
