That depends on what you mean by 'take over us'. It is inevitable that machines will soon be able to out think us. Many machines already do things that humans do faster and more efficiently (robots in factories for example). Technological change is progressing at an accelerating rate. So there will come a time when machines (robots if you like) will be able to do everything we do faster and more efficiently, but whether this means they will take us over is questionable. It might be more like we will work in tandem with them to create a more advanced 'species' of being - half biological, half machine. An interesting future indeed. Read Kurzweil.

That was a big fear in 1960. I used to hear "computers will take over the world" a lot. In a way they have. We couldn't live without computers now. But back then when people said "take over" they thought intelligent computers would be ordering people to do things and forcing them to obey, like a world dictator or slave owner or whatever. So I can see how robots might be as important in the future as desktop computers are now, but they will not be giving orders that people have to obey.

There IS no rapid deployment of robots NOR any AI implimentation that poses a CURRENT (not future) threat.
Computers are STUPID MACHINES
My one at work can't spell and can't add.
I have a FULL magazine of paper and it says there is NOTHING in the magazine.
My computer is STUPID
If it ran the world we'd be in SERIOUS trouble!

I think it's inevitable. I recommend watching "Visions Of The Future" which is currently being aired on BBC4 and is presented by Michio Kaku, the first program dealt precisely with your question.
If you aren't in the UK try looking for it on a torrents site.
