Hi does anyone have any links or recommendations for a cheap and cheerful laptop for a 17 year old girl for xmas?

I've looked at dell so far, and glanced at a Tosh Satellite!

I don't really know where to start.

I got a Compaq Presario F500 in Sept. for about $430. It came w/ Windows Vista which requires a lot of RAM. This model only had 512 MB so I had to add more.

This one had a $30 rebate & the store was offering a free printer so I think it was a pretty good deal.

This the most similar model I found on cnet.com:http://shopper.cnet.com/notebooks/hp-compaq-presario-f560us/4014-3121_9-32473807.html?tag=srch_2_1

Cnet is a good way to check reviews & prices for all sorts of electronics.

Hold out & shop around because it looks like retailers will be offering deep discounts to attract reluctant shoppers.

I bought a cheap laptop at a shop called Staples in UK. it cost me £299 and it has 448 ram and 60gb hard drive. it runs well i use the wi-fi to connect to the Internet through a wireless router. It has been a real bargain and i got Norton 360 half price with it too and a half price laptop case. I thought it was a good deal hope this helps

One of the cheap Dells would probably do the trick.

the Inspiron 1501 by Dell is nice. I'm using it right now, no complaints, recommend you get 2Gb of RAM tho. 1Gb is fine, but 2 is better
