This is what really I am really surprised to learn.

Why is it shops that retail branded computers like Dell or Compaq sell specifically only computers? They hardly sell other products.

Yet, why is it retail shops that sell self assembled computers also sell other products? Other products such blank CDs, external hard drives, modems or mouse, etc. Some of them sell so many other products they began to look more like sundry shops.

Why must these shops sell other products? Can't they sell only assembled computers?

Why is it shops that sell branded computers only sell the computers and hardly other products?

Why the big difference?

A lot of questions, the shops with a few leading brands probably have deals with the manufacturer or vendor. They know they will make money from this. The smaller shops try and sell mixed products or may even specialize in a certain range because they don't have the same big connections. It may even be that the smaller shops want to sell sundries and a few computer parts, all depends on the nature of the business.

I think that the shops that sell other products do so in order to ensure that they have buyers spending money with them all the time. Otherwise they might not make enough money for the stores to stay open. There will always be a need for hard drives, mouse mats, Cd's etc etc:
People like Dell sell computers to a vast amount of people and therefore they do not need to sell the other items, they also do not have shop staff to keep employed or the rents and rates that the retail shops have therefore eliminating the need for the extra sales items!!

Larger shops can afford to specialize selling mainly computers, where as smaller shops perhaps only sell a few computers each week so therfore NEED to sell sundries in order to be able to make it profitable!!

A business owner can run his business any way he sees fit, and if it is bringing in money, that is all that matters.
