Ummm the Capitals is not an option like cowboysfan said. The dc NHL team already has laid claim to that. IF they HAD to change the name ,I would love to see my Skins renamed the Beltway Banshees or the Beltway Bandits. However if the Skins have to change their name then Kansas City should be forced to change theirs also.

The Washington Redskins should call themselves "The Washington Segregationists" led by Colonel Dan Snyder and their fans should sit in the stadium's wearing their jerseys and pointed Klu Klux Klan hats.

The founder of the Redskins, "George Preston Marshall, however, had a reputation as a racist. He was the last NFL owner who refused to sign black players — the federal government forced him to integrate in 1962 by threatening to cancel the lease on his stadium. When he died in 1969, his will created a Redskins Foundation but stipulated that it never support "the principle of racial integration in any form."

"And Dietz, the namesake Redskin, may not have even been a real Indian. Dietz served jail time for charges that he falsely registered for the draft as an Indian in order to avoid service. According to an investigation by the Indian Country Today newspaper, he stole the identity of a missing Oglala Sioux man."

The genocide of the Native Americans and calling them "Dirty Redskins" while the Americans freely massacred them using soldiers and the public is the worst thing this country has ever done.

Redskin (slang)

"Redskin" is a racial descriptor for Native Americans, the origins of which are disputed. Although by some accounts not originally having negative intent,[1] the term is now defined by dictionaries of American English as "usually offensive",[2] "disparaging",[3][4] "insulting",[5] "taboo" [6] and is avoided in public usage with the exception of its continued use as a name for sports teams.

The term derives from the use of "red" as a color metaphor for race following European colonization of the Western Hemisphere, although initial explorers and later Anglo-Americans termed Native Americans light-skinned, brown, tawny, or russet. According to historian Alden T. Vaughan, "Not until the middle of the eighteenth century did most Anglo-Americans view Indians as significantly different in color from themselves, and not until the nineteenth century did red become the universally accepted color label for American Indians."[7] Slang identifiers for ethnic groups based upon physical characteristics, including skin color, are almost universally slurs, or derogatory, emphasizing the difference between the speaker and the target.[8]

Hopefully they would simply shorten it to there nickname...the "Skins. as long as they come up with some bogus story about how it was short for "PigSkins" instead of RedSkins, it should squeek past the Political Correctness Nazis. The Harder part would be finding a decent logo.

What would be worse is any type of actual change.....like when the Browns became the Ravens.....totally destroyed a lot of tradition.

Probably something stupid and lame like the Senators or the Capitols.

Lets hope it doesn't come to that. As much as I despise the Redskins, I don't want my Cowboys to have a rivalry with the Senators.. lame.
