Separated. I've used it since I was a child, had many 100% spelling tests and still question myself whether it's an "e" or an "a"!

Jen - It's a lot, two words, not one ;)

haha..i thought that was just me,anything with an "ei" in it, like their or friend.i never know if its right till i see it printed out.
once i see it though i'll know if its right or wrong.
we were taught in school that "i before e except after c", i went to the dictionary and made a list that contradicted this and brought it into school the next day,the teacher wouldnt accept it,we still had to learn the little rhyme and i got punished for being "impertinent". adults eh?
just thought i'd explain why i have this mental block about "ie" or is it "ei"?

Do you mean why it is spelled the way it is? All of them. How about the word 'enough'.
