Fight for all the right reasons
to fight for all the wrong reasons
to rationalize everything
love is the sole spring
inspiring, motivating, moving
if it is there, if it is real..
then it must be rewarding
to fight for all the wrong reasons
makes us fools for deluding
contrary to the face of evidence
we inexorably keep on hiding
wounded yet unswayed..denying
must we brave all the bleeding?
fight for all the right reasons...

I don't know the song, but what you say in your poem is certainly true: rationalization is one of humanity's methods of making something wrong seem to be right. It DOES delude and keep us in denial. As intelligent creatures we must face reality and keep our priorities straight. This is one time when poetry can help us to be pragmatic when necessary.
