very recently the gas company dug up the road where I live to lay new pipes. Now, this morning the road is being dug up again in the same places to lay new sewer pipes. Why couldnt they get together and do both at the same time? Also I have just come off night duty in A&E, so no sleep for me!

Now they are playing loud music and shouting to each other. I may go out and tell them to shut up. One look at me in my dressing gown might traumatize them so much they will run away and I will get some sleep!

This is a problem that has arisen over the years as we have got gas, water, sewers. and now they are putting phone and electricity underground those as well. I think this problem was increased with privatisation. I know there are some attempts to coordinate these things so I suppose they will improve and I understand with new housing estates the developers put conduits under the pavements so the service providers can run their cables etc through them but this only applies to new estates of course

For the very first time in all my years, I have actually seen it done right. The town in which I work has a whole network of roads that are being resurfaced with various other changes. All the utility companies came out at once to move their lines, the county did their work in conjunction. It all started in July and we're nearing the end. Can't wait for the end!

hey i really feel for you but i am getting some problems with a particular company whom i have been in credit with for over two years and i worked my butt off to get into credit only to move house due to domestic violence and i am now very far behind in both gas and electricity although i have a payment plan that automatically takes out the payments they still harass me about my bills.there are obudsman via untilies that you can contact.my most recent bill for a quarter was over $350 although i live alone and the meter reading was wrong i used no heater or dryer they pushed and pushed until i got someone to speak on my behalf.my bills gas gerally a bit more but electricity went from $80-100 per quarter to over $350 i was like no way i am a stinge when it comes to utilties have to be on a diabiliatiy support pension. But can heat my home......not enough ppl stand up for them selves. that is the answer.ppl think big company they are right but big companies are not always right.complain and make them explain!!!!!!

I have often wondered why they just don't have a trench in every road with a cover over the top .Then you could just put all the utilities in together . This way when there are problems you just take the covers off and no noise or expense .It would save a fortune in digging .

They usually wait until the road has been resurfaced and then they all come along and dig up the same hole one after the other, electricity, gas, water, telephone, Cable TV. Uncle Tom Cobley and all, with about one man working and five supervising, that's why your bills are so high. Then they leave the safety rails up for weeks afterwards.

You must be in California!
they dig it up for sewers/then it's gas/then it's cable/then it's
utilities. This is called project
planning (in reverse).
On the subj of utility companies, In Cal, its PG&E
here in the burbs.
Why has power plant fuel
gone from <1% in 2006 and
up to +24% in 2007 for nuclear??
I know of only one nuclear
power plant in Cal. Where will the rest be built? PG& E
surely cannot draw enough
energy off nuclear to power
24% of Cal. households.

Because of the lobbing of council and the road maintenance companies. They all make money when the road is dug.
However efficient planning is a dirty word for politicians.

Yeah, that would be just too logical! And if it's men doing the planning, digging, etc. that it explains it right there! LOL! Seriously, I'd be ticked off too! Go get some shut eye, girl!!

There are now rules and regs that are supposed to sto that happening now!
but its true, the roads get ruined by these companies, and its usually just after they've been re-surfaced!
