I know some women can lose plug and still go into labour a few weeks later, but I was just wondering, when you lose it, does this mean you have began dilating? I have lost lots of white stringy mucus for the past 2 weeks, and the last few days have had 3 HUGE blobs come out, also some light blood spotting...does this mean my cervix is slowly dilating? Thanks

I am nearly 39 weeks

not necessarily dilating but your cervix is definately softening. As your cervix is getting looser and softer it can't hold the plug in anymore so it falls out. The dilation occurs in your uterus. I lost mine at 39 wks with the first and stayed at 1cm till 40wks when I was induced.

I lost it at 40+2days with the second and had him 24hrs later. Everyone is different but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are dilating or beginning labour. Get your doc to do an internal at your next visit to see how you are progressing.

Good luck and fingers crossed it means you are starting something down there!

All I can say is don't get too excited about it. It means that things are progressing, but then again you are 39 weeks! I lost mine on Tuesday, started lots of contractions all that afternoon and then... NOTHING! I lost a little more yesterday and have has lots of tightening, etc... I was assessed on Monday and was 1cm, but of course that is normal for my stage, I am 38 weeks today. I like you was searching through all of the answers and got a little too excited. I now realize that this little baby calls the shots. Besides, it give me more time to spend with my 3 yr old and finally get that linen closet cleaned out - lol.
Best of luck to you and happy, safe, delivery.

well now your in the final stages of the waiting game and it sounds to me that any day now you will start to get contractions and hopefully you will dilate.
your body knows when it is ready to go and it has to prepare itself and the plug is just the beginning so since you have been losing it over a period of time and alot lately i think labor is just around the corner
