some superheroes in the cartoons who wear masks have white eyes but when they take off their masks, theres no white patch or something covering the eye holes. unlike spiderman whose mask really have the color white on the eyes, others like the flash or batman or batgirl suddenly has white eyes when they put their masks on. how come their eyes suddenly become white when theres nothing covering their eye holes?

It was easier on the colorist to leave them white back in the day before computer coloring. The "white eyes" are meant to be part of the masks, kinda like Spider-Man's, just smaller.

The White patch that we see covering the superheroes eye holes aren't real. Superheroes/heroes like Batman (technically he's not a super hero), the flash, green lantern and the likes have beautiful eyes. When they don their masks the sheer beauty of their eyes are so captivating, it make us see things that aren't there.

The artists actually did mention about this question a few years back. Some said that it's because of the reflection from the lens on their masks, some other said that it looks nicer in the the artwork. Basically it's all the artist's impression on how he draws it but it's kinda picked up since Jim Lee, Rob Liefield and other artists of that genre started drawing like that.

The animators ran out of ink when drawing the original concept-sketches. Okay...in reality, I don't really know. But it makes for some interesting animation!

just artist interpretation I suppose. Also, hands and eyes are some of the hardest parts of the human body to draw.

i guess because it looks cool, it fits the character, or maybe because white eyes don't really exist among normal people so to make it less humane they make it all white, because they're superheroes who have supernatural powers who are not so human.
