I want to plug my PS3 into a PC monitor. If I use a HDMI -> DVI adapter, will there be any loss in video quality by the time it displays on the monitor?

I mean, will the picture quality on the monitor be worse than normal HDMI picture quality becuase it has had to travel through an adapter?

Thanks

In theory no.

HDMI = single link DVI signals + HDCP encyption in a smaller consumer electronics friendly connector.

The one thing that can bite you is the HDCP encryption.

This is an encryption of the digital signals as they go over the wires of the DVI or HDMI cable. The default for this is no encryption, so provided your PS3 does not turn it on everything is hunky-dory and you get a high-res image. However, as soon as you put a Blu-Ray disk in the PS3 it will turn on the encryption and, unless your monitor supports HDCP, you will either get a low-res image or no image at all.

If you have not bought your monitor yet, get one that supports HDCP.
