You can get a bugaboo from Ebay for about that price, they cost about £1000 from shops!

Mamas & Papas do a good range as well check out their website!

I like the 'steelcraft strider' pram (in red!). It seems to fit the bill for all the bits and pieces you want in a pram but since I have had 4 prams now, I kinda know what to look for! I'll give you a run down

* a hood that doesn't just lay out flat but curves down to shade baby. laying flat doesn't nothing for sun shade
* light weight (under 11-12 kgs) or it will be far too hard to push when baby gets bigger
* Rubber not plastic tyres. Ones you can pump up roll better
* an adjustable & removable front bar
* good breaks (i accidently let my new born son roll down the carpark when I had my back turned because I hadn't engaged the break properly. And the worst mother of the year award goes to.... me, lol!)
* a back rest that goes completely flat not slightly raised otherwise newborn rolls around
* adjustable foot rest
* large underbasket
* easy to fold - do not buy a pram that you have to take the wheels off in order to fold it. I cannot stress this enough
* parent tray on top for drinks and snacks

Best of luck and I hope I've been of some help.

A word of advice from a farther of 3. Travel systems make life a lot easier I know they don't look as cool as a pram but that does not matter when you have only had 2 or 3 hour sleep and you need convenience over style.

Good Luck

Just want to congratulate you for wanting a 'proper pram' as I feel so sorry for babies cramped in a tight pushchair type. With a real pram they can sleep, play and talk to mum as you walk around.

the jane one is fab. The only downer is that the wheels are pneumatic, and so prone to puncture. We solved that by putting slime, i.e. the green stuff that prevents punctures, into each inner tube. Problem solved. The pram has a carry cot which doubles as baby carrier in the car, and a pushchair for when he / she is older. My daughter loves hers.
