James Taylor has by far the better voice. My Aunt Martha sings better than Bob Dylan, but her impact on American music is zilch. Dylan has had an influence on music that Taylor does not even come close to. Dylan's music gave way to the tumultous sixties. James Taylor soothed the savage beast while Dylan gave it a voice.

James Taylor should not even be mentioned in the same arena as Bob Dylan. I do think Taylor is a good songwriter and decent singer, but Dylan has had a much greater influence. Taylor stayed soft and pop oriented. Dylan has experimented more and taken risks. He has represented many generations with his brilliant songwriting and people knock on his voice, but it is unmistakable.

Although both Bob and James are rock and roll hall of fame inductees, Bob is the greatest living song-writer of rock. Bob's body of work is absolutely awe-worthy. James however, has a better singing voice, but is a simplistic song writer, and his work doesn't compare. Ultimately though, whose better is a personal choice.
