My husband and I live in Australia, and we need some general tips, on how to and what to do in regards to our baby daughter's christening, as we dont have family to help us through the process...

For example:

* Do we need to register it?
* How far in advance do we need to book it?
* How much does it cost?
* WHAT DO WE DO?

Hi, I am in Queensland. We had our kids baptised in the Lutheran church (i am lutheran, hubby is anglican but we aren't practicing christians) and basically all you have to do is ring the church you want of the denomination you want, (lutheran, baptist, catholic etc...) and speak to the pastor/father and tell them you would like to have your child baptised.

He will then get your details and most likely ask you some questions about your faith and why you want to baptise. He may also schedule a meeting to meet with hubby, you and the baby, usually they will travel to your house, and this is when he finalises when you will actually perform the ceremony and details of god parents. One or two sets of godparents is normal. My daughter had two singles people and my son had two couples. Usually it is done during the course of a normal church service. It doesn't cost any money to baptise but the normal thing to do is offer a donation to the church or contribute to the offering plate when it comes around during the service.

It really is dead easy to organise and costs 'nothing'. All you have to do is ring the church you want. Usually 6 weeks notice or more is preferred but it would really depend on the church itself and what other things they already have planned.

Good luck and congrats on bubs!

you can email me at cindy.v.14@hotmail.com if you need anyother info or happen to live in qld!

Well here in the US you need to call the church that you belong to and just schedule it! You will most likely need to go to 1 class which goes over the baptism. Then you show up with the baby and pick 2 god parents. You will most likely have to give the church a donation. You can give whatever you can afford.
