i've had them for about half a year now.....there is five....will they ever stop being so scared?

I raised piranhas as a kid and they would make a thud sound every time they hit the tank (sometimes I thought they were going to crack the glass). They are always very jittery because all their neighbors take bites out of them (notice the missing fins?).
They like very low lighting (none at all is better) and lots of hiding spaces. This usually helps to keep them calm. I preferred rocks and big plastic plants that they could hide behind because they always dug up and destroyed my expensive Amazon Swords.

You are much larger than they are. In the wilds this would signal you as a possible predator. It is simply their survival instinct taking over. You may want to provide them with a few plants and a structure or two for cover. Also, a 55 gallon tank or larger may be in order.

They're not scared, there going crazy because there's a big hunk of meat walking past them!

no...they're fish...you can't expect them to act like a dog or a cat...they're also meat eaters. So they can smell you too. (yes fish have a sense of smell..in the water) Maybe you're making too much noise when you walk and the vibrations are making the water sway.

they are not scared, they just want to chomp on the guy who put them in the tank... they are like prisoners vieing to kill the jail warden...
