Vandalism is frequently addressed on http://www.PlanetChristmas.com The consensus solution for reducing the probability of vandalism is to install motion activated video recorders.

This kind of system will run you about $200 and can transmit video images to either a VHS or your hard drive. Places like Radio Shack sell these systems, but there are other places online that are less expensive.

An alternate method to reduce occurrence is to install a fake camera but make sure you put a sign denoting video taping.

Regardless of what you do, a sign in the crucial link and will reduce the potential by what has been perceived as over 50% probability of vandalism.

Last year, there was an incident where an inflatable snowman was slashed. The homeowner had a video system and caught the action on tape. He took the tape to the police, it made the news and AP wire, and the perps surrendered within 48 hours of the video hitting You Tube.

So, a camera will not eliminate stupid people from doing stupid things, but it gives you an opportunity to catch them, have them arrested, and prosecuted.

In the case where the inflatable snowman was killed, the judge was a decorator that had several thousand lights in his yard too. He threw the book at the perps.

Sounds like you have some real loosers next door, and that's terrible, but I would put your decorations up as you always have.
You can't do anything to Stop vandalizm but you can report it should it happen.
You can anchor them to your house with a staple gun, if you are afraid of them being stolen. You can also install a camera to watch your home , which is kind of extreme but depending on what you consider to be Feral this may be an option worth looking into.
Hope you get through the holidays ok.
Take Care.
