In 1990's, after the Soviet defeat, generals like Musharraf dispatched thousands of those fighters to wage a guerilla campaign in Kashmir. Many trained across the border in Afghanistan, in the same camps that Al Qaeda had set up under the Taliban.
After 9/11 Musharraf promised Washington that he would cut off support for such groups, including the Talibans. Early on, he authorized the arrests of several top Qaeda leaders in Pakistani cities, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the MASTERMIND OF THE Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and Aba Zubaydah, a top Qaeda orgranizer. But Musharraf's efforts have always been somewhat halfhearted, constrained by the deep sympathies that many of his countrymen have for jihadists. For decades Pakistanis were taught that the guerillas were Muslim heroes, fighting for national honor and security. Such loyalties cannot be turned off like a tap. Several of the militants' oncetime spymasters, both inside and outside the government, maintain links to their former charges. The security services will go after certain figures, particularly foreign Qaeda fighters, but ask others simply to lie low. Many officials , even many ordinary citizens, still think the jihadists should be preserved for future use as a strategic weapon, especially against India, long after America's War on Terror is over.
"In Washington, a senior administrative official involved in counterterrorism said U.S. intelligence is chronically fearful that Islamists might get hold of nuclear material, equipment of know-how in Pakistan. He recalled that after 9/11, a group of rogue Pakistani nuclear scientists met with Osama Bin Laden. "Given that history, we continue to look at this issue very closely." he said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue."
"The most Dangerous nation in the World isn't Iraq...IT'S PAKISTAN...."
THIS ARTICLE clearly states who were involved in the attack on America on September 11, 2001...get with the program...you are delusional and uneducated! Read, read, read and educate yourselves, comprehend what you read about the facts, so you do not ask this dumb question again, and again. NO, the Pakistans are NOT our PALS!

Bush is so embarrassing. He holds hands with the King of Saudi Arabia, who funded and supported Al Qaeda until they bombed Saudi interests, Bush trusted Musharraf who takes our billion$ and shields Al Qaeda and the Taliban until they bomb Pakistan interests, and there is still no reason to trust him to iradicate Al Qaeda.
6 months ago I said we need to go into NW Pakistan to destroy Al Qaeda and cons on here said I was a crazy liberal who'd betray our good friend Musharraf. Now, Al Qaeda and the Taliban almost killed Bhutto, they're attacking targets in Islamabad, they're taking over towns and cities in western Pakistan, and Musharraf has 80% of Pakistan's military assets sitting on the eastern border staring at India. Musharraf has a standing army of a million men. He is NOT doing the best he can. Cons are cowards immobilized by fear.

You do realize that President Musharaf is squeezed between a rock and a hard place, right? His grasp on the country is tenuous, at best. If he were to make a big deal about how much he hates Muslim terrorists, he'd be assasinated or thrown out of office. The Pakistani Intelligence, which is basically a terrorist group in and of itself, works independently of Musharaf. He has no control over them.
Musharaf is pro-America and anti-terrorist. The fact that he's Muslim is completely irrelevant. We NEED him to help us fight the war on terror. He's doing the best he can, given the circumstances. That man has a target on his back; I can' t imagine what it must be like walking in his shoes.
By the way, Pakistan's WMD can't reach the US. They basically have them to protect themselves from India.

My thoughts are you are so poisoned and tainted against Bush, most of everything you've posted has no relavence because you can't be objective.
Time and time again you bash Bush and complain, meanwhile you show little knowledge of what led to it or sense of history. I don't see you whining about how Jimmy Carter was responsible for the terrorist regiem build up of Iran, or how Clinton bombed little more than an aspirin factory in Sudan...sending them back before the stone age. You want to disagree with the man, fine, but by all rights, if you haven't a clue of what you speak, maybe you should be quiet.

Not to mention nuclear proliferation, a military dictatorship, and the sworn enemy of India, the most populous democracy in the world and one of America's biggest business partners.
