An example is the video Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalanches ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8BWBn26bX0 ) If the link is deleted search for the video on Youtube. At the beginning of the video the actors appear as though they're in a black and white movie, however you can plainly see colour in the background, it appears it's done through a combination of stage light colours. Any ideas?

I agree with Days, that's digital. There's no way that's on stage lighting. If you do that on stage, you actors would have to dress in shades of gray as do their make up in the same fashion. The set and props as well would have to all be shades of gray.

Sorry buddy but that is done digitally. Either it started b/w and they added the color in the back or the opposite.

absolutely no idea on that
the tech work on that is amazing though
surreal white light is produced by red, green blue
black is absance of color
some combination of that i would assume
