Well I often found Visual Basic to be useful in someways, but why not study Visual C++ independently. Visual Basic, and Cobol are not even worth studying in my opinion.

Visual Basic is a very useful tool. Cobol is somewhat out of date. I suggest VB.

COBOL = Third generation
Visual Basic = Fourth generation
Therefore I recommend Visual Basic.
(But it is still your choice, this is just my humble opinion)

I agree with Zach.. COBOL and VB are both useless. If you really want to learn i'd suggest to continue java and learn .NET framework.
But since, this is for school, I'd suggest VB. It might be "a bit "helpful if you decide to do VB.NET.

in case you want to pursue a profession in suggestions sciences, you're able to take the C++ course. VBA isn't a expert-grade programming language, and it ties you into Microsoft-in basic terms runtime environments. you elect the broadest possible journey and exposure.
