I think they know whats going on, but dont understand the importance of water conservation, and dont really no what it is like to be affected. The only way you could reinforce the importance of water and conservation is to take away many of the small things it provides in our life.

why is there a critical supply, the earth is 75 % water and with the polar icecaps melting from global warming there should be even more water available. I think the problem is that it is only a concern in a few spots in the us. I know in the midwest we dont have any real issues. California and FLorida have the most issues and its only at times. I dont think that it is a big enough problem for most people to take an interest, they should but they dont.

unfortunately, the majority of the public is spurred to action on issues such as these only when catastrophe occurs or when the possibility for disaster becomes widespread.
here in the San francisco bay area, a lot of work is being done to retrofit the waterlines in the event of a major earthquake. the realization that a big one is probably on the way spurred this into action
in new orleans (racist theories aside) the levies were horrible. only after the devastation is the need to get better ones being noted.

We need to invest in desalinization. I doubt the situation is currently critical, but it is best to start building plants to filter and clean sea water. Long term, that's what we'll need.
Raising public awareness: If we get rid of the mass hysteria on the air waves about global warming and the rain forests, maybe we'll have time on the news for actual information to be conveyed.

If the New Orleans situation didn't do anything else, it did prove that the people in this country do not care about such issues until they bite them in the gluteal region.

Yeah we don't know enough. I am of the opinion that clean water is more important than clean air. I am also adamantly opposed to putting fluoride in the water. What is your opinion?
