Neonatal Death. The first answer that you recieved is incorrect as a still birth is when a baby dies in utero. You never recieve a birth certificate for a still born child. In either case it is devistating.

It is called neonatal death. Our first daugther had a heart defect and was born at full-term but passed away 5 hours later. This is what the doctor called it and we did get a death certificate for her as well as a birth certificate.

It IS called neo-natal death. My husband and I lost a baby girl at 21 weeks last year. She was born alive, but passed away 20 minutes later and that is what the doctor called it.

neonatal death

we had a daughter born at 22 weeks... she never took a breath, but her heart beat for about an hour... she had a birth and death certificate...

though we had to fight for the paperwork to clear because the doctor was an insensitive ***, and listed her as "fetal demise" yet he and the rest of the medical staff said that time of death would not be called until her heart stopped beating... she didn't die in utero, she died wrapped in blanket in my arms... so after my husband spent a lot of time on the phone it was re-listed as a "neonatal death, due to prematurity"
