I would imagine the same reason we have nose hair... to kept unwanted things out of that area?? LOL
You know I was just kinda grabbing an answer out of thin air, but look what I found:
Pubic hair actually serves a very important purpose. Just like your nose hairs trap pollen, dust, and germs from entering your nose, pubic hair protects your body too. It traps bacteria, preventing it from entering your vagina. If you remove it completely, as with a Brazilian bikini wax, you may be increasing your chances of developing bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections.
All of your hair (no matter where it is) helps to regulate your body temperature and can also reduce friction during body movement, which makes it less likely for your skin to get irritated down there.
Here's another interesting point - from nature's perspective, our pubic hair has a lot to do with procreation. Your body secretes pheromones that attract the opposite sex, and your pubic hair (as well as underarm hair) helps to capture that erotic scent. It's kind of like a billboard that says, "Hey, look over here!" It attracts others to that area, so we can, well, you know, make babies!

lol! the first guy is funny with his answer! HAHA!
Good question -- why? The changes one goes through during puberty signal the coming of adulthood, when a person becomes reproductive (able to have babies). Nature lets us know when someone is physically ready by showing us these signs. Now, that doesn't mean that we're really ready to have babies emotionally or maturely, but we're able to physically have babies. Now, why do we have pubic hair? There are a couple of reasons: Pubic hair is like a billboard that nature places on our bodies that signals "hey! look over here!" to others with whom we're intimate with. Also, all our hair (no matter where) helps to protect certain parts of our body, regulate body temperature, and/or catch our natural "scent" (called pheromones) that is produced in our sweat to attract others (of course, this "scent" can also repel others if we don't shower often enough!). General body hair, like on our limbs and chest, is probably just a natural leftover from our prehistoric ancestors who were hairy all over to keep them warm!

and most importantly anything created by God can never be useless

Actually, it is for the phermone aspect. It helps the body release a very mild scent that that encourages the hormones to get a person sexually stimulated. It is why it starts growing in puberty and is very thinned out or bald in that area when a person is a senior citizen. Have you ever got out of the shower and was blow drying your hair, then wave the blow dryer down to dry the wet hair below? That is when it is very obvious that with heat the body will make a different scent.

There are two major schools of thought on this. One is that it is there to trap bacteria and dirt and stuff from getting into our stuff so easily. And also to capture and spread pheramones, which were much more important when we ran around nekkid as a general rule. The other theory says that it is no coincidence that the three areas of our bodies that are most coated with hair... our head, our armpits, and our groins, are also the areas which are most responsible for controlling our body temp. The hair helps hold moisture there for cooling and it helps trap heat for when it is cold. My belief is that it is the second thing, for the heat and cooling.

Hair in general is a left over of fur on the genetic level – it provides protection in the form of insulation from the elements – keep in mind before cloths what did we have. It takes thousands of years for the human body to change, many generations of people. So a few thousand years latter we may not have any hair.

Prior to the invetion and industrilization of clothing hair was used to keep humans warm. The pubic areas are some of the most important on the whole body and thus important to keep warm.

Body hair has its purpose. It acts as a shield againts unwanted particals and microorganism Just like your nasal hair. Particals get trapped in hair folicals and is then expelled when the sneazing mechansim kicks in. Pussy and balls dnt sneaze but u get the idea.

K, the whole purpose behind pubic hair that I've heard is to protect that area and keep it clean. It's something from ancestry that just doesn't make sense of us having but if we were all wandering around naked maybe it could live up to it's purpose but yeah that's what I've heard.
heh. ^_^
