I have listened, very rarely, to rap. I can't understand the lyrics but from what I've heard from other people, the lyrics are usually about gang violence, cop killing, rape and I'll bet you other vises of our society. The "singers" seem to have this angry attitude. There is nothing remotely likable about this garbage that has plagued our society.

How can you judge something that you know nothing about?

To really appreciate Rap for what it is, you gotta be in the environment of what the music is describing. And I bet you there is Rap music that you really can relate to, you're just not digging hard enough. Believe it or not, this "noise", this "chant", was and still reflects peoples lives. It's a way of expression--old school hip-hop music expressed violence a lot and gang violence, etc...like you said, but it was their way of expressing that oppression they were experiencing. it just kind of got overboard and flipped around in terms of the mainstream that you are exposed to because that's how the music industry is structured. Instead of a positive message BEHIND the violence, it is glorified now. Sex sells. Violence sells. Not even just in music--look at movies, videogames, etc..**** sells and that's what the music industry is demanding. Why you think there's so much of the same **** playing? BUT, there are different "sub-genres" if you wanna call it that. Just like Rock--there's Punk, Metal, Alternative, etc..Rap has its sub-genres too, all with their own sound/style/message.

If you wanna be close minded about Rap, just don't say anything about it because you have no right to say **** about something you don't know about. If you wanna open your mind up to some GOOD rap music, listen to The Roots, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Jurassic 5, Hieroglyphics, A Tribe Called Quest, 2Pac, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Brother Ali, Immortal Technique, Chamillionaire, De La Soul, and Fort Minor to name a few. Hit me up if you want some rap music for you to just listen to and you can judge it from there..

I'm with you to a certain extent. Music isn't JUST about the instruments or voice quality (ah... 'chanting').

Its about the lyrics, too.

And although some rap songs are about gangs/killing/violence, so are some rock songs =/. Some songs that are of that genre have some great lyrics and good messages to them.

Yeah man, you know what I hate? Onion Rings. I can't understand why people would want to eat them. I go up to Sonic and slap them out of people's hands because they're causing massive heart attacks, childhood obesity and I'll bet you other vices in our society. The "fry cooks" seem to have this fattening attitude. There is nothing remotely likable about this garbage that has plagued our society.

It's up to what you listen to. there some good christian bands [if u r in2 tat]. I understand what you mean about rap music tho. I don't really like it either. I think if it was more into happier things and if I understood it more, I would be into it.
