...instead of answering the question? It has never happenned to me because my English is immaculate as we all know. However, it pis.s.es me off when they do that where a simple "I think you got me there" would suffice.

I like how you are complaining about personal attacks, when you are doing it right now.

Get to real thought out questions and grow up.

It's another of the rude"IDK " tactics, where people don't know but simply want to harvest two more points.

In the case of calling out spelling and grammar mistakes, it's also a way of assuming superiority over the questioner. It's for ignorant bullies.

I don't do it because the questioner might be using English as a second language, or may not have the experience of a decent education. In addition, such attacks are rude and almost always irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

Although English spelling is difficult, even the most garbled statements can be understood through context. When they can't, the proper response in English is, "I'm sorry, I don't understand. Could you rephrase that please?"

That's all that's necessary to keep the Yahoo community friendly, respectful and happy.

Such responses tell me that the person is unkind. In addition, this person thinks a bit too highly of him/herself.

I personally dislike grammatical and spelling mistakes, but I keep it to myself. It is not germane to the question being asked.

Many times, a question is heart-wrenching. The last thing the person needs is an answer from a person who is calloused and a nitpicker on a delicate subject.

It is mean.

here in yahoo answers, we do write casually even words wrongly spelled but what is important is how the person deliberately ask a question that it should be well understood and well taken by the answerer. speak out! we're not in a competition on how good we spell or how good our grammar is... don't get offended when people here criticize your poor spelling. Me myself i don't speak and write English very well and its not immaculate either. But I welcome criticism as a sign that my life has vitality. we are all learning here and i guess it keeps us alert to study ourselves...

btw, the word happened has only one "n"

Usually, we only point out spelling mistakes when you bring up the fact that you've made some. For example, "happened" only has one N.

It means the answerer received a proper education and doesn't want to let it go to waste lol. :) There are also some people (such as myself) that are very anal about spelling and grammar rules. Even tiny things tick these people off. :) I find myself mentally scanning everything for errors, so I can edit them in my head.

Although I do think it's wrong to respond without answering the question. Maybe they're actually just doing it for the points, instead of honestly trying to help?

It tells me that the person who answers the question (FYI, males and females both do it) just wants to correct the terrible grammar or spelling mistakes the asker had.

I do it sometimes. If fact, you spelled happened incorrectly, and you did not use commas where you needed to. Your English is hardly immaculate, but we all make mistakes.
