if it came to a vote and the tax increase was ONLY 1% and you and all other americans would be completely covered would you vote yes for it?
just a simple question, not asking for a debate or anything, just want to see what everyone thinks.

impulse answer is yes. but it would depend on how such an insurance system would be run. would it be run privately? by the government? what kinds of benefits would be available and who could would be eligible?
if it's anything like how the private insurance companies currently run, then i would vote no, it would be a waste.
but if it was run with people's health in mind, instead of trying to make money, i would vote yes.

Yes, if you could pay for universial health care with a 1% tax increase, everyone would vote for it.
But since a 1% tax increase would only raise 14 billion in additional tax revenue.
And you cannot fund universial health care with 14 billion dollars.
Thats only $46.00 per person.
Whats the point ?
Universial health insurance would cost about 1 trillion to 1.5 trillion dollars yearly.
In individual and corporate income tax's last year, the US had 1.4 trillion in revenue.
If you rolled medicare and medicaid into a universial health plan,
You would still need an additional 480 billion to 980 billion a year in tax revenue to fund it.
$480 billion would require a 34% tax increase.
$980 billion would require a 70% tax increase.

Absolutely not, it would be a mess. There are more MRI machines in Boston than in all of Canada. Some places in Canada have a ten month wait for a bed in a maternity ward. Canadians (well, some Canadians) like to pretend they are so much more advanced than us bc of their "free" healthcare, but anyone with any money, when needing a transplant, cancer treatment, heart surgery, etc. come HERE to get it!

no, i do not believe in government regulated healthcare. It does not work in canada. Socialism does not work. Get ready for long waiting lists for everything. Get ready for the government to decide if your worth fixing or not. Get ready to lose a lot more rights if you agree to this nonsense.

No, and it's quite simple really.
That "ONLY 1%" wouldn't stay at 1% for very long, as you well know.

It won't be only 1% and anything who thinks that it will be is naive at best and I will never ever vote it in.

no, we've already paid for it and if you're seriously injured and need immediate med attention the hosp can't turn you down as it is. look at canada and england, we have the best health care because it isn't run by the gov't. let's keep it that way!
