no, its funny how some people on here say its a "waste of time", but isn't yahoo answers a waste of time as well, why are people on yahoo answers? to get the most points, right? what about movies? movies are fake, but why do people pay to see movies?? some people just dont get video games, it aint just about killing people, it has stories, i bet if a game like metal gear solid: sons of liberty was made into a movie, a lot of people would watch it.

I just puchased a Wii, don't know how much money you have to invest, but if your parents want to go in half with you I think you would make a better investment with the Wii. There are games and activities that I think you would enjoy. Since you are active in sports there are many sports to play and you are not sitting down and just using your fingers, you are using your body and moving like you would in the sport. I love mine, and I got it to do exercise. And I'm 58 yrs old. Love the baseball & the bowling. Hope this helps you decide what to do. Little more expensive but well worth the money! Very cool game. Ask your realitives for cash instead of gifts for your birthday and Christmas. Should help getting it quicker.

It depends if you are affecting the people around you. Although that sounds shelfish. I mean in the way, well look at my bf he sleeps all day and plays all night right. I have to stay over there at night coz he won't let me sleep at my house but he like puts me to bed and than goes plays his games til 4-5 in the morning... They only way that I can really spend time with him is if I stay up real late but I can't coz unlike him I work.
But than again Video Games are all we have to do on the weekend so they are great than. So I guess answer your question is No. coz he's having a blast.
If you love it it's not a waste but if you don't than it kinda is. Well still not really coz when you play you have fun coz you wouldn't sit there playing the game if you where hating every moment of it would ya?

From the Perspective of a Long Term Single Parent (of two children -- who are now adults) ...
The Video Games (and the systems) ARE a waste of TIME and MONEY ... MY Money (for sure)!
Being a Parent, I, personally, endured all the battering, the complaining, the nagging, and yes, the abuse (both physical, emotional, verbal and mental) that BOTH children heaped on me (and especially AFTER they went to their so-called 'friends' homes and saw what permissive parents purchase for their kids) to spend MY HARD EARNED money on Video Games ... and yes, STOLE from MY PURSE too.
The Time was then wasted -- MY TIME (because I had to keep unplugging and turning off the breakers to those outlets they were using for the Video Games ... so that they would ACTUALLY devote SOME time to finishing their schooling or doing SOME chore ... ANY chore ... well, at least getting off their bums to do someTHING ...
I endured their remarks, their nasty behaviors, had to chase them down and do what I could to get them to DO Homework (which takes so much more time to see rewards vice the microsecond of 'joy' from a Video Game), or to take out the Trash ... (for heaven's sake -- a simple chore) ... Scrape Food Scraps into the Trash Bin ... or even put their Dishes into the Dishwasher after rinsing ...
They got LAZY, RUDE, MEAN, and Violent ... and that is just the beginning. The schoolwork suffered (for sure -- I saw their grades drop). FINALLY when I had enough .. and took away the Video Game Systems (and locked them into a Storage Locker) ... I was actually assaulted by one of my soon-to-be adult children ... who also called me many nasty names.
It doesn't matter what my occupation is (and I have UGrad and Grad Degrees -- my occupation is very difficult to enter ... so as far as "Smart Enough" -- I'd like to see you have the Certifications and Licenses that I EARNED) ... that is meaningless.
Good for those who can develop the games .. but the violence in the games had a DIRECT Linear connection to the violence level in my Young Adult children ... and they are NOW not living in my home at this time (I EARNED my HOME through MY Hard Work -- and do NOT deserve to be abused or have my home damaged or things stolen either).
LIFE Experience. Life was so much better with only Board Games and Puzzles to entertain a family -- when a Family was a family and NOT something to take from.

No. Anything that is fun is not a waste. Life was meant to be pleasurable and if playing video games is what makes you happy, you should play them as much as you can.

I think that people who play them get wrapped up in alternate persona's and lose touch with reality. I have better things to do with my time, like sit on yahoo answers and chat with my internet peers whom I have never actually met about useless questions and answers instead of wasting my time play a game that promotes violence and contributes to underage drug use!

Totally, like, no way. I love video games. They, and music, are the only way I live w/o being crazy.
