Why do you think people do this? We see it all of the time...Some people make it blatantly obvious, while others are caught contradicting themselves in the previous questions and answers that they have given. Why would someone find the need to lie over the internet? Do they not get attention in "the real world"? Do they think that we are all going to think that they're cool...and why would that matter? Any thoughts on this?

(And yes, I probably could have posted this elsewhere, but I frequent this section, so I want to hear from the people I "see" on here everyday.)

Yes, it is disturbing when this site is made to HELP others and immature people abuse it by living in their fantasy world. If you didn't want to answer the question, then you should have went on your merry way.

Obviously, I'm not talking about giving out personal details. But why would someone come on here to make up problems when there are serious questions that people have to ask?

It makes you think of how they are in person...

But yeah i agree, thats pretty sad...

Like there will be someone who's all like "omg my daughter had sex with her brother" and you look at the other questions they've asked and they're like "I'm in 5th grade, i need math homework help?"
.....................what the hell?

Just from people on answers I can list about 45 liars.

It's easy to lie when it's not to someone's face. You get to hide behind a computer screen and be anyone you want to be.

Just like online bullies. They'd never say a thing to your face but online they're dishing it out pretty bad.

We get a tonne of hate mail over things we say on here, in real life not many will call you on something and set you straight.

I've stopped believing people on here, I simply give a good honest answer and if they're lying, well at least they now have a good answer for if that problem ever does occur.

Well, I used to frequent this section. Believe it or not, it was nearly a year ago! It was a completely different set of circumstances.

Anyway, I don't lie online, but if I did, it would only be a creative writing type thing. Like, similar to who I am (or completely opposite but still realistic) or just generally normal. It would be a practice in acting, an idea of a person just to have fun. It wouldn't be serious or cause trouble.

I don't think that's why most people lie. It's for attention or out of boredom.

Hope I helped. :)

I think that people lie on the internet because they're scared what people will think of them, or they want to make themselves look better and be the "perfect" person. I haven't lied before on the internet. I think that you should be your own true self in person and on the internet because that's who you are and if you can't be proud of who you are and what you have achieved then you should definitly do something about it. I think that this is actually a good question that you have on here. It something that not alot of people would put on here and it's good that you did it's also cool how tons of people answer this question and tell people they're stories if they lie and why or if they don't and why.

Yes, I have seen this occassionally and wonder the same thing.More often than not I will answer it as if it were a real question on the off chance they may be serious this time.I don't know if they are bored, lonely or seeking attention .It can be a learning experience on here .Take care.

Of course people lie over the net. It's so anonymous. They will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to do what they want. The only times I truly thought I wasn't being lied to was when I ventured into a chatroom and pm'd some guy with a weird screen name. Then I got to hear about their freaky thoughts and their lonliness and virginity.

They have low self-esteem and want attention.

I know to just ignore the "Dad" who wants us to look at the disturbing video that his daughter made. He is most likely a 13 year old boy wanting to shock everyone.

But I have found that the young girls who just want to get on-line to let us know how cool they are, and how their teaches are stupid, and can we do their homework for them just make me crazy. I don't even look at their questions anymore, because I know that half of what they are putting up here are just lies, and it's just best to ignore them.

People on the internet want to live different lives from what they're currently living, either because they're a loser in real life or because they're such a nice person in real life they want to see what it's like to be a jackass online. It helps enlarge they're E-Penis

They probably have nothing better to do... Trolls like to see peoples reaction to their silly questions... I have seen this quite a few times (the chucky cheese one/merry go round one was sad...)

I agree that they are just looking for attention...

...hum, i don't know why other people lie but for me i simply tell the truth . What is the chance of us ever meeting, they can't hurt me But at the same time i never really divulge my true personality or any thing about my life( i use that gray area, not a lie but not the truth).
