The omega 3 in flax oil as well as soy products and walnuts is ALA which has no brain benefits although it does have some heart benefits. Only about 10% of ALA is metabolised or converted to DHA which has brain benefits.
The omega 3 in fish oil is DHA and EPA and both have some heart benefits and DHA also has some brain benefits.
If you want brain benefits you need fish oil.

it gives you omega-3 fatty acid, an essential nutrient for brain and nervous system functioning. it is also good for your heart and eyes.
you need omega-3, that's a fact. flax is a vegetarian way to get it. if you eat fish, you can take fish oil caps, and that will give you omega-3 in a more economical form.

All sorts of wonderful things....but the BIGGEST thing it does (which they infrequently tell you) is makes you FATTER.
It IS a wonder-supplement...but it is also PURE FAT. Take it with caution, and in moderation.
