First, learn about spiders. There are hundreds of types of spider but only a few can hurt you. On the other hand spiders eat many times their weight in nasty insects like filthy flies of blood sucking mosquitoes.

Then contemplate spiders. Think about the worst aspects of them but compare it to the knowledge you've gained about them. Consider some scenarios with spiders (seeing a spider on your shoe for example) and how to handle them rationally. (hint: the solution does not involve screaming and flailing)

Finally confront the spiders. Get as close as you can feel comfortable with. Study the details of a single spider and notice it's clever spinneret and agile sticky legs, so perfect for stalking tiny bugs. Note that you are not a tiny bug and how the spider hardly notices you. The spider has no means or reason to do you wrong and, if you wished you could obliterate the tiny spider with a flick of your wrist.

Once you get things into perspective your fear will fade and eventually disappear.

i had a fear of them, well i still have a fear of the real big hairy ones. i am the type who screams and runs when i see one. Now if i see a real small one that i know will not "jump" on me than i leave it alone. otherwise i get the vacuum out and suck the baby up. just remember they can not hurt you and they do good stuff. they eat bugs and they eat the dead spiders ( gross i know)

I had a Daddy Long Leg spider in my bathroom for the longest time. He even survivied fumigation. He just kind of hung out in the upper corner. I noticed when he wasn't there anymore and I wondered what happened. I missed him. He never bothered me. Weird, huh?
