Definitely keep the name. It's lovely, and I think it is pretty easy to figure out. However, if you are really upset about it, maybe you could find a nickname that you are comfortable with. Kay could be really cute. Kel? Elsie? And I cannot imagine someone laughing over Kelsea when there are so many other horrible spellings out there. Tell those so called acquaintances to buzz off! ;-) I know a little girl named Wrylee-Qwinn. Imagine that!

I think it is pretty;)
Anyway, my middle name is Ann. When I was growing up I hated it, I mean HATED it. I was embarrassed for anyone to find out my middle name, and when people asked "What's the A stand for?" I usually told everyone a different name. Alyssa, Amanda, Alise, Alison, etc.
For a long time I said when I turned 18 I would change my name. I just never could figure out what to change it to.
Well, now, some how or another the name grew on me, and when I met my now husband, he said "Ya know, you look like an Annie". Now I cant imagine him calling me anything but Ann or Annie (unless hes frustrated with me, then he says Kristen :P). I really like it now even though as a kid I thought it was so drab and boring.
I really dont see how people see Kel-see-uh out of Kelsea, but I also had people tell me I was ignorant and didnt know how to spell when I said I was considering the name Ashlea (now that Im considering the name Sara I get told Im unoriginal, you cant ever win;) )
My neighbor's name is Kelsi. Maybe as a nickname, just on school work and such, you could spell it Kelsey, Kelsi or Kelsie. (I write Ani on most my things, just to confuse my instructors;) And in elementary school I got in trouble because a teacher kept calling me Christine, so on all my papers I wrote "Kris-10".)
I personally love the spelling Kelsea, but it is up to you. I think it is rather silly (and perhaps ignorant) of people to say it any way other than Kelsey. If you are unsure though, I would think that is a sure sign that you should leave it the way it is for now and either just spell it different on anything not official, or go by your middle name, or a nickname. It might help you decide.
I tried spelling my first name a ton of different ways before I decided that I really prefer the way it has always been spelled.

I have a fairly known name with an uncommon spelling as well, and while I truly dislike it, it's never bothered me enough to change it (if so, I'd likely opt to make a complete change, as it's not my style at all LOL) And I can certainly understanding someone wanting to! ;)
If you're comfortable with the name itself, but not the "Kelsea" spelling, I think your mother would (eventually) understand why you might want to change to the more familiar, obvious form. In that case you'd be keeping the name she gave you. Just "correcting" a bit of a spelling error. After all, it doesn't sound like she purposefully altered the name to reflect a significant family member or something (I've seen it done LOL). Rather, it seems she may have just been unfamiliar with the correct form or even simply confused it with Chelsea. So I doubt she'd be all that upset if you opted to change the spelling ... but keep the name. Just explain it to her if you decide to do so. I'm sure she'll understand.

on a similar time as some changes in spelling are ok, there's a line that should no longer be crossed. The examples you supply are my data. Peytyn, Brijit, Jennafer are nonetheless recognizable and pronouncable. in spite of the indisputable fact that, Caoilainn heavily isn't stated Kaylin. (sounds like it would be mentioned Chow-lainn or Cay-o-layne) and Finna is going to be stated Fin-ah. I understand that those are classic Irish spellings yet except you reside in eire, no one will understand this. there are a number of diverse the form to spell Kaylin e.g.: Kaylyn, Caylynn, Caylyn, Kaylynn, Caylin. And why cant the middle be spelled Fianna. only upload the "a". on a similar time as you're saying that is no one's newborn yet yours, you need to take a glance and motives why your brothers in regulation are providing you with slightly advice. because they're instructors, they understand what young ones do while together in school.

Keep it! Your mom thought a long time about that name, and it probably meant something to her when she gave it to you. But that's not all you should think about! I can understand why it'd annoy you--but personally, when I see "Kelsea" I think of your pronunciation as "Kelsey." I think it's a lot prettier-looking than plain old "Kelsey." I really like it!
My name is Misty, and people call me "Mindy" all of the time--which annoys the crap out of me because they don't even sound alike--but it's not enough to make me want to change my name to "Mindy."
So, I think your name is beautiful. And it's brought you this far in life, you might as well let it take you the rest of the way! :)

When I looked at your name spelled the way it is it looked like Kelsey to me. Why is that? Take a look at the name Chelsea. Now everyone pronounces it as Chelsee Right? Right. So, why can't your name be spelled Kelsea?

Keep your name the way it is. Your Mom spelled it that way for a reason.
If people know how to pronounce "Chelsea" then they should be able to figure out "Kelsea" ... Laugh at them when they pronounce it wrong instead of having them laugh at you.

Keep it the way it is. Its beautiful and your Mom gave it to you. Go by a different name if you want, use your middle name, but keep Kelsea as your first name for everything legal.

I prefer the spelling Kelsey but if you were to change the spelling or your first name you would more than likely offend your mother so I would talk it over with your mother and see what she thinks.

that spelling is pretty bad. this is what i say to people who think they're being creative by spelling the kids' name stupid- that they will grow up hating it.
however, since you're old enough to be on the internetz it's a little too late to change it imo. just deal w/ it. maybe you could go by kel for short to hide it however, lol.
