Make a whole platter of different christmas goodies, like cookies, and rice krisipie bars and that kind of thing.
Homemade ornaments, you can usually buy the clear bulbs at a craft store and then paint.

I'm going to attempt making some notepads this year - I've never done it before but I found a great link (see below).
One year I made Christmas ornaments. I used large hoops from the craft section and strung on beads and embelishments. For my mom I made a set with brown glass beads and used fishingline to suspend cowboy-themed embelishments in the center of the hoop. The hoop hooks closed at the top and I used a very thin craft wire to permantly close the top and to be used as the tree hook.
Book-thong book marks are easy, too. Just hemp or crochet thread (try size 3 or 10) and tie beads or embelishements to the end. If you crochet (or want to give it a try) I have an excellent pattern (see below)
If you knit or crochet you can make scarf and hat sets VERY inexpensively from nice yarn (I like Caron Simply Soft, $2.50 a skein).
Hand decorated photo frames are a god way to get creative and you can make those so cheaply! Use cardboard frames from a craft store (check the dollar store or Big Lots or Ollies first). A friend of mine used to make frames she sold for several dollars each. She would take an old puzzle and spray paint the pieces. Then she would glue the pieces to the outside of the frame (not put together, just in a neat pattern). You could also use fabric to cover the frame or beads or pretty paper from the scrapbook aisle.

Go to a craft store and look at what kinds of projects they have. It depends on what you know how to do. There are all kinds of possibilities if you know how to knit, crochet, or sew--or if you are willing to learn. Some craft stores will have books on homemade gifts. You could always look at one of those to get ideas too.

Go to your local restaurants. Ask if you can have their corks from wine bottles. You can glue them into frames from the thrift store into trivits or use a large frame and make a corkboard. Cool for the wine lover!

You can make some fun craft sets - you buy the supplies already cut out and everything from Oriental Trading Co. they are really fun and very cheap. I also suggest christmas cookies! :-)

Try making a quillow , use a fleece blanket and tehn make pocket pillow case for it to fold into. my kids love them they have one each in the lounge they look like cushions to every one else but in the evening when I am to mean to put the heating on the get them out and curl up in them. My mothers even got one in herlounge to curl up into. she likes it because it does not look like and old persons blanket in the day time so none of her friends think she is old. You can pick up fleeces really cheep these days our local store had them for £3
