My spouse is an alcoholic and a deadbeat and although I know they are no longer close, I think it will still be very difficult for her.

You tell her that daddy is going away for a while, but we don't know how long that will be

Well she is going to wander where her dad is, you need to tell her that you and him can't live together anymore and he's going to live in a different house. Give her lots of positive attention. I am a divorcing mother of 4 kids. Mine took it fine. We all are very happy now. As long as you keep her happy. She will do just fine. You made the right decision your a good mom, for looking out for the both of you. Good luck!!!

Not really as long as you give her all the love you can...Don't put her father down to her...Right now she is too young to understand what is going on. Just let her know that her daddy isn't going to be living in the house anymore,,,but that he will visit her. Wait until she is old enough to understand what she is feeling to tell her, She can make her own decisions then
And don't talk badly of her father to her or in hearing range ..this will only make it harder for her.

U have to be honest with her why you are seperating with her dad. Explain to her its not her fault but its the decision made by you and your hubby. Explain to her no matter what the situation is she still has parents that still lover her but just can't be physically living together anymore.

I would definitely let her know now. No matter how old she is, she'll be angry with you later in life for shielding her from something this important. Say something to the extent of "mommy and daddy aren't getting along anymore and will be living in separate houses...we both love you very much, etc"...except put it in kid language. Good for you and good luck!!

Go to an Al-anon meeting. Once there get a sponsor, follow her advise and work the steps.

Good luck. I will pray for all of you.

The sooner you do it the better it will be. Otherwise she will grow up and her choice of a husband will be just the same as her Dad!

Well, what do you think? If you were in her position what would you like to hear? Would you like to know why your daddy isn't around anymore? or would you be just satisfied with the answer "he won't be living with us anymore"?

Just tell her when she asks that he had a problem he would not deal with and you cannot put up with it any more.
