Well, it rather depends on the SIZE of the rocks you've collected !!

A Grand-Uncle was a geologist and professor at the Colorado School of Mines... HE had most of his samples at the size of a golf-ball or smaller, and had them in a segmented BOX. He ALSO had some samples cast it acrylic resin to make them paperweights.

They're usually arranged on a flat surface, often with special lights or other objects. Here is a nice one
