What is wrong with thosepeople? Hugging "reflects badly on the school and is in bad taste" or whatever ridiculous rhetoric in their handbook is reasonable? That is truly pathetic. They are extremely fortunate that my child is not in that school system to receive punishment for hugging a friend to say goodbye for the weekend. The school system would find itself in Court for a TRO in the morning. The rule is ludicrous, arbitrary, vague and ultimately unenforceable. It prohibits perfectly acceptable behavior. Adults hug each other all the time in all situations. Do they advocate teaching kids that caring about each other is wrong? That having emotions and feelings is something approaching criminal behavior? They should concentrate on gangster activities instead of punishing a child for being affectionate, loving and showing healthy emotional behavior.
They should ALL be ashamed. In this day where educators are faced with real problems and challenges, sanctioning this beautiful young lady for being a shining example of what society should embrace calls into question their qualifications as educators who deserve our trust. Our children deserve people who have a grip. Clearly, they do not. I have no right to make demands, but in the interest of common decency, that rule should be rescinded, and the detentions should be wiped off the young lady's record.

"I hope this wasn't motivated by any religious fundamentalism that thinks that all touching is obscene."
Sadly, I'm very sure that at the roots it was motivated by precisely that. That and a dash of homophobia.

This world get more weird as each day goes by.
What are they going to do about the football players when they win a game and hug each other, the coach and lift the star player in the air and carry him around.
We can blame the ACLU's crazy liberal lawyers.

That is just retarded this world is going to the dogs.Soon they will be saying you can't hug your child when you take them to school for there first day of school. And all schools will have girls in one room for lunch and the boys in another rooms for lunch. My thought let kids be kids.

I saw the video and think that it is stupid. I can understand not wanting public display of affection in the schools. ie... kissing but hugging is a friendly gesture. I guess they just want our kids to grow up having no emotions.
