If it's expired you won't be getting regular updates for one thing. I'm not sure if the whole product still keeps working or it disables parts of it. Anyway, probably better to remove it and get a free anti-virus like AVG or avast and free firewall like Safety.net or Comodo. They're all listed here:

Some free anti-virus progs actually outperform Norton anyway.

By the way, I used to have Norton and had a few troubles with it, so I switched to the free stuff when it expired a few years back.

Unless you got other anti-virus software, you better buy a new licence from Norton or buy a new version of Norton.

It is for your own good. Perhaps, you are too brave to go into internet without anti-virus.

Those restriction will be released if you extend your licence properly or install a new Norton recognized anti-virus software.

If it is expired Stef, I suggest you delete it. I'm not to keen on Snorton! Go to Add/Remove programs<(WinXP: Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs), and delete it, if you see it. Then go to Windows Explorer,(Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer), and up above in the headings, click on Tools>Folder Options>View tab, and then scroll down to "Show All Hidden Files and Folders", and click the box next to it. It will ask you if your sure, ya-da,ya-da, Yes is the answer. Click OK, and go back to Win Exp. In Windows Explorer, click on My Computer>Local Disk (C:)>Documents and Settings>Owner,(or your name)>Programs. Right-click on Norton,(Might be listed as Symantec), and click on delete. It's going to be in many other shared files/folders also. The best way to get rid of the left-over 'tidbit's' is to download CCleaner,(registry cleaner), after you're up, and running on the net, to easily do this. After you have CCleaner downloaded, and open,(running), click on the Cleaner icon, and click all the boxes on the main page down to Advanced,(but NOT Advanced!), and then click on Analyze, then Run Cleaner. See the leftover tidbit's you no longer use, or need? This just takes up space on your harddrive, and can corrupt your registry, or at least slow everything down. Also click on the Issues icon, and click on Anaylze. See what I'm talkin' about? Yes, you should save a backup copy of this to your MY Documents folder. Later, when you see your computer is doing fine, you can delete this. It's so if there is an issue, you can restore these files. I haven't had a problem yet, in a Year now! One last thing, delete the short cut icons, on desktop, if it's there, and in the All Programs. However, Norton is gone!, But do not run Windows without a anti-malware program,(anti-spy/virus/trojan). The baddies just look for computer's like this. There are many free download programs you can use, and some require using one of each. Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG,(from Grisoft), Adaware, etc. About Norton: There's no gain in my slamming this program/company. 'Google' the net, for reasons not to use it.

Did your norton come with a firewall? Check & see if it is blocking internet explorer or whatever program you use to get onto the internet. Occasionally norton will ask if a certain program should be blocked from accessing the internet.... so you might have clicked no & accidently blocked access.

Hi. SBC is a telecommunications company. Since it is not a virus then Norton should not block it. See if you can change the filter in Norton to allow SBC. (I am not a Norton fan, BTW.)
