Ok, so I have this story I wrote up from having this dream I had a couple of months ago. So I have completed it, and have started looking for a publisher. I have found one, it is Trafford Publishing. I have looked at the pricings on their offers, and whoa!

I am going to need 600 - 1000 dollars to even get a few copies out on the shelves.

So what do I do? I can't make a commitment like that. Especially on something I don't even know is going to bring the money back in. I really don't even care about making profit, I just want a few copies to hand out and around. So what do I do? Does anyone know of a publisher? I would like to self publish, but I don't know how to do that. Help meeee!!

Ok, So I have seen a post below, about the Local Printer. So now I am asking, "How do I find a Local Printer?", and "How will it benefit me?" Will they give them out to book stores? Or will I have to do that personally? What kind of options will I have with a Local Printer? Such as hard back covers or paper back? What all will I be able to personally select?

If it's a short story you can google 'literary magazines' and you'll find literally thousands of magazines that publish fiction. You might even get paid for it.

This way, there may end up being thousands of copies out there without it costing you a penny. Sounds better, doesn't it?

Beware "vanity presses" where you must pay to publish. If you just want a few copies to hand out, go to a local printer. The printer will set and print it for you and charge much, much, much less. A mere few dollars.

You really shouldn't self-publish. I think you should just read up on the publishing process or there are lots of sites where you can ask for advice from editor, publishers, authors.

Good luck! That's great that you got it finished. Something I can't seem to do. Ever.

Find an agent or submit your story to only legitimate publishers (no self-pubs) and hope for the best.
