(this is everything i know about moving to the philippines from the US.. i say this in case you arent from the US)

you could bring a hybrid car here but you are going to pay LOTS of taxes just to ship it here. you would have to pay off your car in full and then pay somewhere between 50%-150% of the retail/original price of your vehicle. SO, you are better off just buying a new car here. diesel would be a good choice as you are looking to save some money.

bring your furniture! we made a big mistake of giving away our couches before we moved here and now... i cant stand how stiff the new ones we have are. and they were not cheap!

ELECTRONICS are reaaaally expensive here (in my opinion) so i recommend you buy whatever electronics you would like to have in your current location and bring it to the Philippines.

Umm.. if your body type is not average size or smaller or you have big feet, i suggest you buy a new pair of tennis shoes, and a pair of nice dress shoes and enough clothes to make you happy.

If you or anyone that you live with like certain soaps and shampoo's and detergents, i suggest you buy at least a years supply of those kinds of things before you come here because imported items are a little pricey...

otherwise!!!!
just bring your credit cards and you're set!

Importing a car is so much tedious and not cost effective. You'll have to pay import taxes and duties which i think is not practical. It would be better if you buy from here. I think some of the car manufacturers will be making hybrid cars here soon. you can just bring yourself and buy a house or rent a condo which is less expensive. Most of the things that you will buy from there, i think you will also find here. Good Luck!

Hybrid car will cost you a lot and don't forget those custom taxes we have here. Just bring some important necessities and if you have relatives here, buy some pasalubong for all we know that Filipinos are fond of imported things. Save your money for hybrid cars, it's better if you invest it on home lots or farm lots you like in here...:)

You don't have to bring anything here, except your money and your personal effects. You can find everything here, and would be inexpensive. Even if an item or two would be cheaper where you come from (including your hybrid car), the taxes and the trouble bringing these in would not be worth it.

If you want a hybrid car, how easily available will the spare parts be? After all, you need to replace the oil and fuel filters, among other parts.

What you need is generally available in the Philippines.

Have a good visit.

Good luck looking for spare parts or service centers for that in the Philippines. I'd recommend that you buy a car at a reputable local dealer here when you get here.

No need for you to bring a car here. There are lots of nice cars around. All you got to bring with you is your Visa Card instead of cash for it is safer to have credit cards. You can just buy anything you want here.
Hope you have a nice day and GOD BLESS.

No need to take anything from the U.S. to the Phil. They have everything there that you have here. Computers, cell phones, CDs, camcorders, cars, every brand of toothpaste, etc... They have a lot of malls in Manila that carries american products.

exchange your dollars now while the rate is still high. open a savings account. a 50 thousand dollars is equivalent to 2 million pesos and if banked correctly, you could live with the interest there.
