I had a baby when I was fairly young and went on birth control. I was on all different ones (depo shot, patch and pill) for 6, almost 7 years. I decided to stop to try to replenish my "system". I am finally with the man of my dreams and I want to have a baby with him now but I am deathly afraid I wont be able to get pregnant because i messed up my body so bad. I dont do drugs, I dont drink, I live a very straight life. Does anyone know about this subject? Or have any advice? Thanks so much.

Sure you can still get pregnant.

If you are very worried about it, both of you get checked out by a fertility specialist.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I was on depo for a long time (Hell I call it) so I'm freaking that I won't be able to conceive, even though I know many who've conceived while ON the shot.

Yes you can. But you will need to give your body time to fully flush those birth control medications from your body. Also, your body needs to start up the egg release system again.
Birth control works by 'tricking' your body into thinking its pregnant and thus not releasing any eggs.

So just give yourself a good 6 mths to a year to give your body time to adjust and start back on a 'normal' cycle.
Good luck.

No, hormonal birth control does not have long term effects on your ability to have children. Since you don't ovulate while on the pill you have a better supply of eggs than someone who'es been losing one every month.

I know people who got pregnant within the first month of coming off the pill, though some may take several months to get pregnant.

I had a child when I was 17. I was on the pill for years after that and now my son is 25. Being in the same situation as you...I now have a 3 month old daughter, so yes...it is definitely possible, lol!

I've had feminine issues too and done lots of research on birth control. From what I've found, they affect your hormonal balance and usually you have to stop and wait for a good while (especially considering you've been on it for long) before it clears out of your system. However, our bodies are capable of amazing come-backs. It's not impossible, it'll just not be as soon as you'll want it.

As long as you're still producing eggs you should be able to get pregnant. Just to make sure everything is fine "down there" I'd go to the doctor and address your concerns with him/her. Good Luck!!

If you still have eggs, then yes. And you can still even get pregnant if your taking birth control.

All available evidence about birth control suggests that it has absolutely no effect on your fertility or your natural cycles.
