I am 13 years old. I am writing a book, but its not even finished yet. My friend who is up-to-date on my writing of the book(more like an aquatince) tells me to try to get it published. Its a book thats aimed toward tweens or teens. I am a girl, and it has some love in it, yet it is also in a fantasy world with fighting creatures, and adventure. I always have had a good imagination, and my teachers say one day i will become a GREAT writer.

I was wondering how ot get it puplished, and if anyone will actually let me publish it because of my age.

THANKS A BUNCH!

Kids younger then you have gotten published before. Yes, you can. But it's not about having an imagination. Publishers and editors are tough these days and I mean, TOUGH. They're not going to go easy because of your age.

It takes lots and lots of skill and you have to be unique--not cliched. One publisher may hate it and another may love it. You have to have dedication and stay motivated. You have to be devoted to your work. If you have great characters, an awesome, fleshed out plotline and you're writing has to be topnotch and nothing less then that.

Good luck though!

Getting published is really complicated.

1. The book needs to be finished.
2. You need to find an agent who is willing to work with you and is willing to try and sell your book to publishers.
3. If a publisher is interested they'll need a 3 chapter copy, a plot outline, plus things like a marketing strategy, etc. This is where your literary agent works overtime.

The publishing world is a business, too. So, many times publishers already know what they want and spend a lot of time looking for that (ie, "We need a sports-based comedy for teen boys to sell next Christmas!") and if your story isn't that, it may sit for a while. However, if your story is truly a knock out, it'll be bought. Finish it, find a literary agent.

Be advised, the children's publishing world is tougher than the adult. It's very winner take all and a few writers are pretty much in control of the whole market.

Finish your book, then consult the current edition of the Writer's Market found at your library or book store. Edit your manuscript as many times as you can stand it for spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure while avoiding cliches, trite expressions and eliminating fat from the prose.

Locate a literary agent in the Writer's Market that might accept your genre of manuscript. Follow the submission guidelines exactly, form a powerful query letter, and submit.

Gaining representation is an almost impossibility because the amount of manuscripts delivered each day to an agent's desk are overwhelming, with many often getting trashed at finding a minor mistake. Edit for perfection before submission.

I don't think the age matters but the content.. I think they read couple of pages or the whole book and see whiether or not if its any good. If is any good, than you might be able to make a deal with the publisher.... I think
