It's also part of the "states rights" doctrine. Basically, if Nevada recognizes Wisconsin marriages, then Wisconsin must recognize Nevada marriages. Imagine if everyone had to remarry every time they moved to a different state! Forget about it! That's also why there's some of the controversy over married gays. Some states recognize gay marriage; others do not. For that reason, Massachusetts (at least) will not issue marriage licenses to gays who come here from out of state to marry and don't plan to live within the State unless their home state also recognizes gay marriage. But all the states recognize heterosexual marriage licenses issued by all the other states.

For the same reason a Wisconsin marriage is legal/acknowledged in Las Vegas (Nevada actually). All states have reciprocal agreements to acknowledge marriages.
You do not need a marriage certificate from a different state even if you move there.

It's acknowledged under the Constitution's "full faith and credit" clause. Solemnizing marriage is a "public act" of one state, and other states must recognize it.

marriage changes your legal status with the federal gov. Not just the state. If it didn't than you would have to remarry any time you moved, or crossed state lines.
