The sport had more compelling personalities during that era with Borg,Connors and McEnroe in their prime.I also think the game was more intresting as well.Longer rallies, serve & volley players and less power.

Longer rallies and less power was not necessarily more entertaining. If you're progressing chronologically, that tennis has its place. But if you go back to that after watching the modern game, it looks to slow and retarded. It was good whenever the top players played each other.

The most retarded thing is when someone played a defensive lob, the other player was unable to put it away for a winner because the rackets weren't powerful enough (LOL). I have a dvd of the 1969 Wimbledon final between Laver and Newcombe. One of Newcombe's stategy was to just play defensive lobs to Laver's backhand so that Laver would make unforced errors. Another thing I noticed in thatmatch was how slow those guys were. The ball was played halfway between the center and the sideline and they could n't get anywhere near it. Nevertheless, it was a fairly good match.

Furthermore, the rallies were not long int hat match. You can't have serve and volley tennis and long rallies at the same time. In today's game there are long rallies because everyone plays a baseline game. One thing I agree with the other answerers on is that the game back then had more variety. That's one thing that's lacking. I don't miss the wooden rackets. That was retarded.

You are right! My favourite players were Borg and Lendl. There was no clear-cut favourite, and everyone seemed to have a different style...even in the ladies game which made it very interesting.
Martina...serve and volley....Chris Evert....baseline.
Conners....baseline....Stefan Edberg and McEnroe, serve and volley.

YES, the 70s and 80s were more exciting as there was less to depend on technology...and it was a faster game of serve and volley
