Take the idea and go crazy with it. It can be believable or unrealistic, it can be wacky or just plain, but once you have all of those things brainstormed you'll begin to get somewhere.
Let's say you just have a girl--or boy--an image of them, in your head. How would that person dress? What do you imagine that person would act like just be going with their dress and looks? Like a stereotype. Work with it like that. When you see a tall man in a trench coat and fedora, you think killer or someone you at least don't want to be around. They're mysterious to you, so you have to try and figure them out.
And idea works like that. Take a cliche or a story that has your idea somewhat in it and make it your own. Or you can come up with other ideas and connect them. Don't force, just wait until you're imagination is fruitful. And if you can't come up with anything from the idea, I say trash it or put it aside and wait for a while. Take a break and don't think about it, then you'll see that at the most inconsequential of times VOILA, you'll have what you need.
Good luck!

Take that idea and ask yourself questions about it. Try to figure out things that would help build on that idea.
For example, let's say I'm L. Frank Baum and I'm working on an idea that eventually becomes "The Wizrd of Oz." Maybe my initial idea is a little girl who wants to go home. Ok, fine, why does she want to go home, is it because she's at school, she's been kidnapped, had an arguement with a friend at their house, what? Well, maybe finding herself in some distant land that's strange to her will do it. But why is she in a distant land? Had her parents sent her away? Was she moving? Maybe she found herself there by accident, some natural disaster caused her to end up there.
You know, just ask yourself questions about your idea. Try to figure out the reasons for the idea to come to pass. And how things are solved.

no one can tell you how to write a book about your own ideas. An idea is a foundation, but you have to build on it.. (otherwise it wouldn't be YOUR novel) Be creative and think of what would conlict or compliment the environment you're trying to create off of your "idea" and incorporate it

Years ago. Stephen King and his wife lived in Colorado.
He, and his wife Tabitha, were looking for a get away spot for
a vacation. and there was a lodge that was closing down for
the winter. Stephen King, then talked to the owner, and there
was "The Shining," in the making. One of my favorite. 8})
