I have a need to know what good books there are for a 12 year old, with a mind like a 14-15 year old, who is an advanced reader and loves to read, but can't find books that interest her. She is not a big fan of horror, romance, most fantasy, most sci-fi, and old books (the oldest book she has read and liked was written in 1975). Hope you can help.

I need books for a twelve year old, who thinks like a young high schooler, to read. She enjoys Harry Potter (but not a whole lot of other fantasy), The Princess diaries, Al Capone does my shirts, A Great and Terrible Beatuy, Bat 6, The devil's Arthimetic, Molly: An American Girl (but she reads it in like 5 minutes) and pretty much any other fiction about WW2.

These are the books I've read at that level:
1. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. It is has violence:very good book; kind of easy, though.
2. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer; great love story, kind of long.
3.The Princess Bride (I forgot the author), very interesting: kind of funny.
4. I know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

I found that books by Judy Blume helped inspire my daughter to start reading when I could not get her interest any other way. She was 13-14 at the time and this started her down the road to a lifetime of the love of reading!

I loved (and still do!) "The Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin.

It's a middle-school book, but I love it because the author doesn't "talk down" to kids. The book is usually classified as a mystery, but it's a lot more than that.

Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer. There are currently six in the series and I love them all. It's a pirate adventure series.

It would be easier for you to tell us what she DOES like and then we'll respond back with appropriate books, because looking at the list you've given us, it seems she doesn't like anything!
