I'm buying a new 2 wheel-drive, single-cab Silverado. Should I go for the 4.8L or 5.3L motor? I haul a two-horse trailer about 5% of the time. I'm trading down from a 4 wheel-drive Duramax diesel, so I know I'll be dissapointed either way, but so much of my driving is just commuting. Will I see a big difference (milage vs. power vs. parts/maintainace) between these two gas V8's? Thanks!

I get better gas milage out of my duramax than I do my 1/2 ton with the 5.3. If you want gas milage go with the 4.8 cause it won't suck as much fuel as the 5.3 but I would tell you to stay with the duramax cause your gonna think your pulling your trailer with a 4 cylinder after you make the switch!!

Plus the duramax will last you about a billion miles.

i'd go with the 5.3 liter. the 4.8 will only get slightly better gas mileage, and the parts/maintenance will be the same. Bobo is wrong, one will not outlast the other, they are both very good, reliable engines. The 5.3 will just have some more power, which you will probably need.

No doubt, pulling a trailer warrents the 5.3 plus a slightly lower gear ratio if you can squeeze it out of "The General."

When you're pulling the trailer, the mileage with the 4.8 will be worse than the 5.3 and it ain't a gonna last too long!!!

i like do it yourselfers. You people provide me various sturdy artwork on the dealership. All i'm able to declare is shop up the forged artwork. We savour your loss of understanding what your doing. My guess is you acquire 2 clowns who have not any theory what they're doing, the two get the comparable 2 clowns to undo what they did or tow it to the dealership or restoration shop & have them restoration it
