You must LOOK like you speak spanish then... there are so many people who come to the US who don't speak english... and now english speaking Americans have to learn those people's languages to accomodate them... my personal opinion is that it should be the OTHER WAY around and all the "You must speak another language to get this job" is BS. But anyhow, we are used to this usually being the case so if you look like a spanish speaker people will speak to you in spanish. Just look at them... blink a few times... and walk away... lol

They do that all the time to me too. I'm obviously WHITE. I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I live in El Paso so like 3/4 of the population is Mexican and can't even speak English. It's a little bit frustrating but I move in a year, so I'll get over it.

You must be living in Spain or Portugal or Mexico. If you can`t understand a word how do you know what language people are speaking to you? If everybody is speaking Spanish then you are the foreigner. Learn a little Spanish.

I don't know. My husband's family are all from Mexico but the one's who don't speak english will ask someone who does to translate for me - I know I should just learn it. I know a little. Though my sister in law kinda has that problem at family gatherings between her family and her husband's family - her family is from Mexico (a lot of the relatives over 55 don't speak english) and her husband's family is from Russia (his father, sister, and maybe a dozen cousins and three aunts and uncles speak english - everyone else speaks broken english)

Maybe it is easier to slip into your first language than a 2nd spoken one.
