I know someone with breast implants and she was able to breastfeed just fine. She breastfed for 8 months, then switched to formula.

If you can make milk after the damage the implants have caused, then you can breastfeed. However, a woman with implants might not make enough milk for the baby because the milk ducts and other parts of the breast have been damaged. There are no harmful side effects from the baby drinking the milk, either.

The actual surgery itself can cause damage to the milk ducts which can make it harder to breastfeed, if the nipple was moved then there is only a 50/50 chance that any milk ducts will remain connected.

However there is more to breastfeeding than breastmilk.

There is no danger from the material the breast implant is made from. The silicone levels in breastmilk are slightly higher for a baby with silicone implants but it is still FAR lower than formula. Also the silicone used in breast implants is the same as what they use for infant gas drops.

Breast implants (silicone)

Silicone implants are considered to be compatible with breastfeeding, but the surgery itself can affect breastfeeding for some moms.

Silicon, like aluminum, exists in soybeans and some of the additives used in formula manufacture. While silicon can be detected in the milk of women with silicon breast implants, the amount of silicon found in formula is significantly higher. If a woman has silicone implants, 55.45ng/ml (nanograms per milliliter) of silicon (a proxy for silicone) can be found in her milk. In mothers who did not have breast implants, approximately 51.05ng/ml of silicon was present in the breastmilk. Twenty-six brands of formula have been tested for silicon, however, and the levels were significantly higher: from 746 to 13,811 ng/ml. We still do not know the effect of large amounts of silicon on an infant.[4]

You absolutely CAN breasfeed with implants if they're under the muscle....i'm not sure about over the muscle. I have implants and i'm bf-ing my 5wk old now...i also bf-ed my 19month old when she was younger. I haven't any problems at all with milk supply or my son getting food and I know many women w/o implants who've had a much harder time bf-ing than myself.

If your breast implant is not leaking or no abscess then breastfeeding is fine.

I don't understand why women want breast implants anyway. There are tons of risks involved with them. Be happy with what God gave you! Also read this....

You CAN sometimes breastfeed with implants, I know somebody that did. That said, it isn't always possible, and if you want to breastfeed you should really consider if you want to have implants.
