Ok so i'm grown and i know how all this birth control stuff works so thats not my question but i am going tomorrow to start the depo-shot for the first time and i know there's a chance of weight-gain(not that i am complaining i'd actually like to gain a few lbs.) but i want to know how many girls out there that are on the shot have actually gained weight? Or if you have friends or family that are on it have they?

My ex got the shot, and stayed on it for 2 years....Believe me weight is the last thing you need to worry about. She went completely mental, stressed out over nothing, fighting and crying for no reason at all, major depression kicked in, and yes weight gain. She'll never use that shot again, and recommends to all her friends to not even try it. She wasn't even the same person. Oh and when she finally decided to stop using it, she bled for so long (months on end) that she thought she was going to die! Please do more research on the long term effects and mental effects before you try it!

I had the depo-shot it was many years ago. I swear I will never go back on that again. Yes you do gain weight I gained 10 lbs. on that because it makes you feel hungry a little bit more. I didn't like it made me feel tired. I petite so its bad for me. My doctor at that time told me yes alot of women on it do gain weight. When you get off you bleed for a long time. I'm on a low dosage pill to me having a period once a month is good, a good way to cleanse the body and produce more blood, I used to forget the hassle of taking it daily time everyday but its not problem I just put a reminder to take it everyday an alarm on my cell phone because I always have it with me and the pill is small enough to fit in my purse.

I got the depo shots for a little more than a year, but stopped because I did gain quite a bit of weight (20 lbs), and my body just felt wrong somehow -- like a constant case of minor PMS. Even though I haven't had a child, I switched to the Mirena IUD, and like it much better. I still have periods (which you don't with the depo shot), but very short, no weight gain, and I like that it has an extremely low hormone level.

Nooo, don't do it!

Read those reviews and google "depo provera lawsuit" and rethink the shot.

MANY women have gained weight as well as other horrible side affects of the shot. Too few have had no problems on the shot.

To me, it is not worth it. The side affects are horrible.

Gained 50lbs and would never ever take that shot again. My Doctor won't even give them he is so against them.
