Some were gifts so cannot replace. I just need to get rid of the mold spores. I am allergic to mold and do not want to expose the rest of my library to these books. What can I do??

I suggest you contact a major library or archive where they do conservation and restoration work on books and manuscripts and seek their advice. Some of the products and materials they use may not be commonly available in stores and you may have to contact specialty suppliers.

The mold and mildew can be brushed away with a soft brush. To lessen the stale smell, sprinkle talcum powder between the pages and seal the book in a plastic bag for a few days. Then brush out the talc.
