Yes, and I always liked it when the time changed---because it got dark earlier and so my children would be tired and ready for bed sooner.....so during the winter months, I got lucky and they went to bed earlier and without any fights......

Yes I do. I believe pre schoolers should be in bed by 8:00 as
the latest for they need their rest to keep themselves healthy.
Usually 12 hours as I understand is necessary. And for those
in school no later than 9:00 or ten tops. It depends on the
age and the transportation to school, that would demand the
bedtime. If they ride a school bus, then they'ed have to get
up earlier than other kids perhaps.
I know even in highschool, if I stayed up past ten, I suffered
the next morning trying to wake myself when it was dark out
and trying to find an appetite to eat a cold bowl of cereal usually.
Mom would usually be up to make oatmeal or Cream of
Wheat, but if I wasn't in the mood for hot cereal, I'd hurry to
scarf down a bowl of cold cereal on the run. Usually I didn't
have an appetite that early in the morning anyway. When I
went to bed on my own a little after 9:00, it made a big diff-
erence in my attention span at school and I actuall enjoyed
learning. But if I was tired and half lidded, it was all I could
do to get through mornings til lunch.
I had friends tho, who let their kids watch TV til they fell
asleep on the carpet in front of the TV. which dictated the
time for bed. Their parents didn't mind their staying up late.
And didn't care where they fell asleep. They would wake them
or have their dads carry them to bed. I don't see that it did
the kids any harm tho. So who am I to judge?

At the latest. Yes I was very fimr on making sure my babies and even up to 12 years old went to bed at the same time every night. There were of course a few situations that this was impossible but I was pretty firm about it.
When I was able to stay home the first4 years, and they were one and three, bedtime was 8pm....
Then after going back to work and not getting home till 7 - 7:30 that had to be extended to 9pm and that's with a home cooked meal (I spent my weekends cooking for the whole week and wrapping everything up to be thrown into the oven )
I heated dinner up as I ran their baths, of course they were starving but once in the bath, they were happy, so out of the tub, into the pj's and dinner time. then I'd let them play around while I did the dishes.
then by 8:30 every night I would read to them for 25 minutes.
At 9m they were calmed down and tired and ready for bed.
I think I'm pretty lucky neither one of mine ever gave me a harf time about bedtime. It was also a funtime, I made reading fun so they were happy not grumpy. I think they couldn't wait for their beds plus they had a full tummy.
You are right, now adays, most young parents don't have a schedule with the kids or are to laxed with it.
I will tell you, my daughter is very good about her kids, they have a routine everynight, I hope she got that from me :
Kids need structure, especially at bedtime and if it's true about reading to your kids will make them smarter, I can vouch for that. I don't mean to brag, but my gosh my kids are smart and I'm glad I had a firm routine.
I need my time at night also. I usually hadn't taken my work cloths off till 9. but what was important was they were done for the night. 6am came very early....

a ten year old's natural bedtime is 10:30, though they usually are put to bed by 9:00. No, i do not think children should be in bed by 9 pm. If i had kids i'd give them independence, the way my parents raised me. but i'm not a senior.

Younger children, say, those under 18, should be in bed by 9 pm. Older kids, say 19 - 21 can stay up until 10.

It depends on the age of the child. In grade school we went to bed earlier. In high school it was 11:00. It's hard to generalize about something like this.

It depends on the age of the child and how early they have to get up the next day. I was never a stickler about bedtime. As long as my children were assured of a good night's sleep it didn't matter.

yes --- or earlier, depending on what time they have to rise to prepare for school. Recent studies have shown that children are NOT getting enough of restorative sleep which affects their health and mental accuity.

For a younger baby, yes... Or even later, depending on when his or her next feed is due.
But for an older toddler, 9pm is a little late... 7pm would be more realistic.
